Turn it clockwise until you reach the core's bottom, feeling it release. Next, I use a small sharp knife to detach the edible parts from the core. Save that precious juice! The cutter should lift straight up, leaving the core to be discarded separately. Cleaning can be tricky, as bits of pineapple might stick; soaking helps, and I've had no problems running the cutter (but not the handle) through the dishwasher.
